What to bring to a Muay Thai camp in Thailand: a packing list
Short answer: Pack light: several sets of quick-drying training clothes, flip-flops, a towel, sunscreen, a water bottle and any medicine you need. At N&P Muaythai Camp in Bangkok, gloves and hand wraps are free to borrow, so you do not need to bring gear. Stay & Train includes a private air-conditioned room with Wi-Fi and breakfast and dinner, from 7,000 THB a week.
Training clothes
You train twice a day in heat and humidity, and clothes rarely dry fully between sessions. Bring more than you think:
- 4–6 training shirts or tank tops in a quick-drying fabric.
- 3–4 pairs of shorts. Muay Thai shorts are cheap to buy in Bangkok if you want a proper pair.
- Sports bras if you need them; bring several.
- Muay Thai is trained barefoot, so you do not need training shoes for the gym. Bring running shoes if you also want to run.
Gloves, wraps and other gear
Gloves and hand wraps are free to borrow at N&P, and you can also buy them at the gym. Bringing your own is optional, but many people like their own hand wraps for hygiene.
- Mouthguard: bring one if you plan to spar. Sparring is optional for beginners.
- Shin guards are only needed for sparring; ask your trainer before buying.
Health and first aid
- Any prescription medicine you take, in its original packaging.
- Plasters and sports tape for blisters: the skin on your feet takes a week or two to toughen up.
- Electrolyte sachets for hot days. You can also buy them at any convenience store in Bangkok.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Travel insurance that covers sports such as Muay Thai.
Everyday things
- Flip-flops for walking around camp between sessions.
- A quick-drying towel and a refillable water bottle (drinking water is sold at the gym).
- A small bag for the gym: there are no lockers, so keep valuables in your room.
- A universal plug adapter and a phone with a Thai SIM or eSIM for maps and messaging.
- Light clothes for rest days. Sunday is a rest day, with breakfast and dinner still served.
What you can leave at home
- Heavy gym equipment. Gloves, wraps and pads are at the gym.
- Too many going-out clothes. Most of your week is training, eating and resting.
- Bedding. Your room at camp is ready for you: a private air-conditioned room with Wi-Fi. See photos of the room.
