How to choose a Muay Thai camp in Bangkok: 7 questions to ask
Short answer: Ask every camp the same questions: how many sessions a day, who you train with, whether beginners and sparring are handled well, what the room and meals include, how long people usually stay and the total price. For comparison, Stay & Train at N&P in Rama 2 costs 7,000 THB a week or 25,000 THB for 30 days, including a private air-conditioned room with Wi-Fi, breakfast and dinner every day, and two training sessions a day Monday–Saturday.
1. How many sessions a day, and when?
Most camps train twice a day, morning and afternoon. Ask for the exact times and which days are off. At N&P, training runs about 06:00–09:00 and 15:00–18:00, Monday–Saturday, and Sunday is a rest day.
2. Who will you train with?
Ask whether the camp has its own active fighters. Training in the same gym as working fighters tells you the coaching is current. N&P's own fighters Buakhiao Por Paoin and Anon Taladkondernmuangpon compete on ONE Lumpinee. Meet our fighters.
3. Is it right for your level?
If you are new, ask how beginners are taught and whether sparring is required. At N&P, complete beginners are welcome and sparring is optional. If you already have solid basics, ask what fighter-level training adds: at N&P it adds sparring, clinch work and running with the camp fighters, in small groups. Read the beginner's guide.
4. Where will you sleep and eat?
Living on site saves a commute twice a day. Ask whether rooms are private, whether they have air conditioning and which meals are included. N&P's Stay & Train rooms are private, air-conditioned and have Wi-Fi; breakfast and dinner are served every day, Sundays too, and lunch is not included. See the rooms.
5. Can you communicate?
Thai trainers often speak limited English, which matters less than you might think because Muay Thai is taught by showing. Ask who can help you in English with bookings and questions. At N&P, trainers speak Thai and a little English, and reception speaks English.
6. How long do people stay?
A camp that many guests stay at for weeks is usually a good sign. Ask for the minimum stay. At N&P the minimum is one week, and most international guests stay about a month. What a month at camp looks like.
7. What is the total cost?
Compare the full price, not just training fees: room, meals, and how deposits and payments work. At N&P, Stay & Train is 7,000 THB a week or 25,000 THB for 30 days with room and meals. A 50% deposit reserves your room and the balance is due before check-in. Flights, airport transfers, lunch and outings are extra.
Location: centre or quieter area?
Camps in the centre are close to nightlife; camps further out are quieter and easier to focus in. N&P is in the Rama 2 area of south-west Bangkok (Bang Khun Thian district), away from the tourist centre.
