Week one: adjusting

The first week is mostly about getting used to the heat, training twice a day and sore legs. You learn the stance, the basic punches, kicks, knees and elbows, and do your first pad rounds with a trainer. Pace yourself and use Sunday to rest.

Weeks two and three: real progress

Once your body adapts, training starts to feel normal and the trainers can work on details: balance, timing and putting strikes together into combinations. This is where a second or third week pays off compared with a one-week trip. If you want to spar, ask your trainer; it is optional and matched to your level.
